We had a similar issue with Kyocera printers but not exactly what you describe. What we did on the printer was in Properties and Device Settings under the PDL button we changed it to PCL XL. Maybe test out the different settings in here and see if you have any joy.

We are in the same position. They sent the renewal six weeks before it expired and the price was close to our Microsoft cost. Had a Lumia 920 since December and never had this issue. I assume you mean the icons on the lock screen or the larger informative one you can pick such as email or text message?
