Meraki - Windows 7 Laptops - Trouble Installing / Service restarting... Script host?

Recommended Posts

Hi All,

Just wondered if anyone has experienced this?

I noticed Meraki hadn't logged any Teachers taking their laptops home since December, so I thought I would install it on a spare laptop and take it home to check it was still working. I'm getting teacher laptops in this week so thought it a good time to check in case I need to reinstall.

Unfortunately, I had trouble installing the agent, below are the error screenshots.

I have made a few changes recently in light of Cryptolocker (one thing I know I have done is disable Script Host around this time).

However, I have:

Turned off UAC

Turned off real-time virus scanning

Pulled the laptop out of the Domain and logged on as Local Admin

Enabled Script Host in regedit

Any other ideas?

Edit: I have just looked at the service on a teachers laptop and it is stopping itself and restarting every couple of seconds!!!

It may also be that I have made notepad associations to many script extensions via GP....

These (which may be obvious to some) are persistent through removal from the Domain and Group Policy...

Anybody want to make a stab at which extension Meraki maybe using on install, so I can associate it back to Windows Script Host?

Also, does anyone think this may be why the Meraki Service is stopping and starting?

Well, for anyone else who gets this issue (although all my Google-fu and the lack of replies on here leads me to believe I am the only one), I am almost certain disabling Windows Script Host causes the Meraki Service Manager to go AWOL.

Stopping and starting the Meraki Service every second and writing logs into the Windows Temp file each time...

Once it is enabled everything goes back to normal.

However, anyone wishing to play Devil's Advocate and help me decide whether to ditch Meraki or enable scripts (neither are choices I'm happy with) but I can't figure this out and I need to work out which is the biggest risk...

TIA
