Sharepoint installation broke WSUS

I recently installed Sharepoint Foundation 2010 on our WSUS server, which broke WSUS because they were both using Port 80. I uninstalled Sharepoint again and rebooted, but WSUS is still broken. (In the course of trying to get Sharepoint to work I also installed SQL Express 2012, which I haven't removed. Goodness knows what else the Sharepoint install might have done.)

 

While trying to fix WSUS, I followed advice to delete the WSUS mmc configuration file in %userprofile%\Application Data\Microsoft\MMC.

 

If I run "Windows Server Update Services" and try to connect, I now get "The remote server could not be contacted. Please verify that IIS on the server is correctly configured."

 

The error I'm getting in the event log is Event 7032:

 

The WSUS administration console was unable to connect to the WSUS Server via the remote API.

 

Verify that the Update Services service, IIS and SQL are running on the server. If the problem persists, try restarting IIS, SQL, and the Update Services Service.

 

System.Net.Sockets.SocketException -- No connection could be made because the target machine actively refused it

 

Any ideas? I can't even see how it was previously configured. If I found out and and reinstalled, will things just carry on from where they left off or is it more complicated than that?

have you tired reinstalling WSUS? removing it from the server and reinstalling it?

(...not yet, as I was hoping I might be able to fix it, and wasn't sure if that might cause more of a mess unless I started backing up databases and stuff...)

WSUS is the most easiest thing to remove and install. Once it set up it will redownload all the updates and report all the computers back.

 

I would try removing IIS aswell. let it install that from WSUS aswell.

 

Anyone else got there input? before @BJG trys this method?
