SQL Server 2008 R2 move from SQL Server 2005 Free

Hi All.

 

My experience of SQL Server is limited. However I am just installing SQL server 2008 R2 ready for our new print management software. What I am trying to understand is how to "migrate" an existing database in 2005 over to the new installation of 2008. Reason for doing this is I have a much more robust backup in place for 2008 R2 and the 2005 free version is very limited in that sense.

 

Any pointers and tips would be great

If you're luck's in then you should be able to just backup the SQL 2005 database and restore it to the 2008r2 server. Check with your app vendor that they support the newer platform though.
