DPM 2012 - SP1 Upgrade SQL Problem

Hi,

 

I am trying to upgrade DPM 2012 to 2012 SP1. Its getting to the point where its upgrading SQL Server 2008 R2 to SP2. Its failing and telling me to upgrade SQL manually. I have done this and rebooted. Its still trying to upgrade SQL and telling me to upgrade to SQL SP2 manually even though i have done this. I can't get past this point, its telling me to do something i have already done. When i run the SP2 installer again its confirming that SQL is on SP2.

 

Any thoughts please?

I had something similar to this before where it asked for a particular SQL version. I manullay upgraded and found that it stilled complained.

 

If memory serves me correctly, I think it turned out to be a reg key that had not been updated during the upgrade process. I manually changed the reg key value and the install worked fine.

 

I can't remember the key but it is what is checked for installation to commence. Can we interegate the SQL version from WMI?

I might upgrade to SQL 2012 then try upgrading the SP. Then it will totally skip the SQL 2008 R2 step (in theory)

In the end this is how i fixed it

 

1. Backup the Database in the command prompt, DPMBackup.exe -db, located at Microsoft Data Protection Manager\DPM\bin .

 

2. The backup will live in Microsoft Data Protection Manager\DPM\Volumes\ShadowCopy\Database - copy this folder to a folder in the root of the C drive.

 

3. Uninstall DPM 2012 select the option to retain the data.

 

4. Uninstall all SQL stuff on the DPM box.

 

5. Reboot

 

6. Install DPM 2012, without SP1. During the upgrade select the option to use windows updates

 

7. Don't open DPM at all. Run this command to restore the database by typing - DpmSync –restoredb –dbloc

 

8. Run this command DpmSync -sync

 

9. Run windows updates and install any DPM updates. Do not install any SQL updates.

 

10. Then run the SCCM 2012 SP1 upgrade.

 

11. Once thats done (it should work now) perform a consistency check.
