Has anybody heard of these guys before? Or using here software?

Installed one on Friday and tested backups today. I have to say its very impressive!

The Hardware

I have been trialing the Datto Siris S3000 unit which is a 3TB device, the unit is available in

500GB, 1TB, 2Tb, 3Tb, 5Tb, 10Tb, 20Tb, 40Tb. It is sitting in a 2U Supermicro chassis, storage is

5 x 1TB HDD's Raid 6, 32Gb ram and Intel Quad Xeon.

 

The Software

The I have been trialing the Full Siris software which runs on Ubuntu 10.04, utilizing Virtualbox

and ShadowProtect (third party software). From unboxing, to having it running in my office and the

agents installed on all the servers was roughly 30mins. Overnight the backups full backups have run

and this morning the servers which are configured for hourly snapshots have worked seemlesly.

All the backups have been tested through the Instant Virtualization technology along with file

level restores. The Compression is aprox 1/3 - 1.2TB of data down to 875GB

 

Below I have attached Screenshots of the major areas and I am just awaiting a USB device to do

the initial sync of data to the Datto Cloud.

That looks really good, have you tried the export to VDMK functionality and imported to Hypervisor?

 

Would be good to know how good it works with Xen hypervisor especially!

 

What are the costs involved with this particular unit and the cloud costs on the roundrobin?

 

I have been looking into it this morning out of curiosity and it just seems to tick all the boxes for any BRP not just enterprise,

No Problem - What format does Xen keep its Virtual disks in? This particular unit is circa £4500 and then around $500 PM for 4TB in the cloud (£100 per extra TB).

 

I havn't tested the export to ESXi yet but it is on my plans (I have a new ESXi box going in next week so will test then).

 

The Formats the box can export as are VMDK and VHD so if Xen can either run with these or Convert them that would work - alternativly you could cross over a connection from Datto - Xen server direct to the VM and then PXE boot the restore enviroment to the Xen Vm.
