SAN IP Configuration

Hi Ladies & Gents,

 

I'm just doing a little bit of research into how to set up a Hyper-V Cluster and I have a question that my Google-Fu has failed me on.

 

If I have a Cluster set up, what IP address system is used on the network between the SAN and the Hosts?

 

Would you use a private address range (192 or similar), or connect the switch(es) up to the general network and create a VLAN to control traffic?

You will always use a different address range for SAN traffic and unless you were super tight on funds you will keep those switches separate from your main network (bar a possible management link, different vlan etc).

 

I'm a vmware user so I'm not sure on the terminology but some also put their 'management' network on different switches also (used in vmotion, high availability).
