Alphabetical sorting

Hiya,

 

This is a known bug^H^H^H^feature in Win7 (and 8) that certain file types do not sort alphabetically correctly.

 

For instance, in a folder structure of AVI or similar media files, the following should be the correct order:

 

Back to the Future

Back to the Future 2

Back to the Future 3

The Naked Gun

The Naked Gun 2

The Naked Gun 3

 

Instead, we get the fallacious

 

Back to the Future 2

Back to the Future 3

Back to the Future

The Naked Gun 2

The Naked Gun 3

The Naked Gun

 

Has anyone stumbled across something 3rd party that may solve that? It drives me absolutely batcrap bonkers looking at my folders in such a way (OCD!)

I do the opposite of @FN-GM and just put 1 at the end of the first one.

If you use the actual names of The Naked Gun films, they will sort in the correct order.

Nope. They changed in Win7. Before Win7 it sorted based upon filename without extension. Thus BTTF < BTTF 1 < BTTF 2

 

In Win7 they just do a conversion to ascii, and sort it. Thus BTTF.avi is higher than BTTF 2.avi as the "." is higher value than "space" in ascii. Thus coming 2nd in line.
