Failed Snap Server

I have a Snap Server 520 which I am trying to recover data from for a client.

 

Has anybody ever used one of these? From taking the machine apart it doesn't appear to have a hardware raid controller (that I can see).

 

Supposedly these devices run Guardian OS. Although from the information I can find I'm not sure if it runs a Software raid.

 

The motherboard appears to be dead in the machine.

 

I'm thinking of removing the disks and trying to install them into another machine and booting that way to see if I can recover data.

 

What do people think?

If all else failed on repairing the unit itself, I'd be looking at it this way yeah.

Its got 4 drives,

 

I've just put them in an old workstation i had lying around and its booted just gotta try and access it.

Hmm I'm now stuck! at present it just says on the screen that i can't manage it from this window and the IP it had doesn't work! Time to keep digging!

I'd boot from a livecd and mount the raw volume and just nick the files that way.

 

Expect the IP is a prob because the underlying mac has changed.

I'm guessing that much too. That was my exact plan! I've got Ubuntu Live CD downloading now - just gotta work out a way to burn it after getting one stuck in my machine that I can't get out! its got one of these annoying slots and the CD is stuck!

Hmm, I've got the machine booted off a live CD (Ubuntu 12.04)

 

Although when trying to mount the drives i get - unable to mount drive "linux_raid_Member" - or if i specfy the file system i get disk/device busy. i'm not running any kind of software raid from the linux cd any ideas?

This is a really old post, but I've run into the same and learned that the GuardianOS file system is proprietary and not doesn't use Linux, UNIX, etc. structures.
