leuven Posted July 2, 2007 Posted July 2, 2007 Hi people I'm just wondering, finding myself at the cutting edge of BSF (ie redundant some time in the not too distant future) , has anyone effected tried any union involvement? Surely I pay my subs for something? I'm not wanting to update my CV just yet, having given 15 years of my life to my job. So I'm curious what paths people have followed to try and, well, keep their jobs. My LA is not open to discussion even though they're going through the motions of consultation. They're planning to replace my team (7 of us, and we're always busy) with 1 LEP techie! Cheers **paranoid disclaimer** My views are my own and not that of my school, etc. etc.
leuven Posted July 2, 2007 Author Posted July 2, 2007 My apologies. I should have read previous posts more. Its been a long and difficult day. Regards
russdev Posted July 2, 2007 Posted July 2, 2007 I would contact union as they are already or should be involved (and if not then any contract from it could be deemed illegal). Russell
Grommit Posted July 4, 2007 Posted July 4, 2007 I would contact union as they are already or should be involved (and if not then any contract from it could be deemed illegal). Russell Rus You cannot stop retrenchment.. i.e. 5 Techies replaced by 1 BSF / LEA Techie... All you can hope for is a decent redundancy package.. TUPEing is only if the new ICT Support Company want to keep you… If they don’t want you there is nothing you can do unless the LEA insist that the staff are kept on as part of the agreement If this does not happen you can be retrenched like in any normal business… bit like the helpdesks going to India.. Welcome to the Real BSF.. but than again i'm scaremongering
CyberNerd Posted July 4, 2007 Posted July 4, 2007 but than again i'm scaremongering No, your just one of the few who doesn't have his head in the sand. TUPEing is only if the new ICT Support Company want to keep you Actually that bit isn't true either - they'll Tupe everybody first - then issue redundancy. However they must disclose how many redundancy they forsee prior to the transfer.
StewartKnight Posted July 4, 2007 Posted July 4, 2007 but they lie As I found out when I was tupe'd from the unCivil Service Still.... the redundancy money was nice....
leuven Posted July 7, 2007 Author Posted July 7, 2007 Pretty much what I expected to hear. We've got a month or so before our LEA finalises things, so I'll keep my head out of the sand and keep fighting even though it looks bleak. regards
Grommit Posted July 9, 2007 Posted July 9, 2007 Pretty much what I expected to hear. We've got a month or so before our LEA finalises things, so I'll keep my head out of the sand and keep fighting even though it looks bleak. regards Good Luck Mate... Keep us informed to who wins the Contract and what they do to the old IT equiptment and Staff..
leuven Posted July 11, 2007 Author Posted July 11, 2007 Thanks Grommit - gonna need it! I will certainly keep you informed. I wish I'd read more about this sooner in retrospect. Unfortunately I spend most of my spare time doing work for the school. Irony at its best eh? Or heartbreaking depending on your point of view... Btw - my money is on RM. I'll eat my hat if they don't get it. Cheers
