Roaming profile recreation and Folder Redirection

OK, so I've just deleted my roaming profile from the server and logged back in...Fine except now folder redirection isn't applying to my profile!

 

Any ideas? Clients are Windows 7 and Servers are Server 2008 R2

Did you also delete the hidden registry files that you can only see by showing hidden files and disabling the "hide opperating system files" option? I assume you didnt delete the whole folder.

I've had this before and never quite worked it out. I always found deleting the contents of the folder never worked. renaming and creating a new folder did.

 

Never worked out why it works though!

Yes, I deleted from the root level on the server and removed any traces of profile folders from the client before logging back in.

I read that and still felt the need to post - and It was always deleted. One of the first things I do when building a server is show hidden files.

 

i think its something to do with the sid in the registry and the folder sids matching so it tries to apply the settings it thinks it should. I never got around to deleting the registry key for the user but it.

 

@googlemad give me a minute and I'll find the location in the registry.

The registry key is located here

 

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\ProfileList

 

You can look through all the sids and it will tell you what path it (normally C:\users\%username%) in the entry ProfileImagePath.

 

Delete the entire key relating to that and see if that works.

Found the issue - Members of a particular group (Which I was a member of) don't get the policy applied which contains the redirection settings!

 

So now an issue for me to delve into further, thanks for all your help

The server copy of the profile can just be deleted through explorer, it's nothing special at all. Cached copies on computers must be deleted properly using the windows profile manager or some other application because they have information also held in the registry. I wrote a tool that can do this remotely using WMI, rather than the dirty registry hacks needed otherwise.

 

I thought the OP was talking about server profiles copies to be honest. Didn't mean any offence.

No Problem - and what I am saying is that deleting copies off the server. Unless the renamed or deleted the whole folder and let it recreate I never got a new profile to work correctly. It may have just been the build I was using of Windows 7 it was just always like that.
