Quick hyper-v question

Is it any use backing up the Hyper-V folder in the nightly backup as it's 42GB and the data running on the virtual servers is backed up and exported by other means anyway. Just thinking aloud as I don't want to waste time if this folder can not be used as the backup.

 

So in short the question is can the D:\Hyper-V folder be used from a backup if I needed to restore a virtual server?

If you're backing up the VMs anyway (using DPM, I backup saved state using child partition data, or words to that effect, it backs up the VHD and other related files) then you'd only be replicating the data for no good reason.

I don't, as you say the important data is being backed up elsewhere any way. What I do do is a termly off site backup of all the VHD's so in a dire emergency we can at least restore those.

I have removed hyper-v folder from the backup so that should speed it up a little.
