edutech4schools Posted September 8, 2012 Posted September 8, 2012 Hi, I have just taken over a new school, They have 2 servers, 1 is running 2008r2 enterprise and is a nice beefy machine. This server is the main DC. The other server has 2008r2 standard. I need to set up hyper-v on one of the servers but MS advise against running hyper-v on a DC. I could install hyper-v on the others server but you get just 1 virtual licence with standard and I will need 2 virtual machines. Can I use the enterprise licence that gives me 4 virtual machines on the 2008r2 standard machine? (I really hope I can as this is a small primary with no money for the next year or so)
Roberto Posted September 8, 2012 Posted September 8, 2012 You can't use the enterprise licence for the OS installed on server one to licence server two, no. You'd need to make the server running Standard the DC and go from there.
