Hi,

Does anyone know of a browser that supports separate proxy credentials to the main system?

I've tried IE,Chrome and FireFox and none of them seem to have this as an option.

What I'm trying to achieve is an easy way of testing different web filtering levels, so I would like to have one browser set as my main for day to day use (Chrome) and then another browser that I can enter different proxy credentials in to receive different level of filtering for testing.

Is this possible?

Thanks.

Every browser going so far? :(

Personally at work I have IE setup as filtered, then FF setup as non-filtered for when needed.

Just set manual proxy, and remove auto detect/copy from IE etc?

(Unless I've misunderstood your question?)

Maybe I'm being blind and not seeing the user credential option ? Or I'm not explaining very well

I want to specify different user credentials for each browser.

For example 2 user accounts A and B, and two browsers chrome and IE

IE = A user account credentials ( Student web filtering )

Chrome = B user account credentials ( Staff web filtering )

This way I can easily change the credentials of the browser when required to test different levels of filtering

I've not seen an option to set different user credentials? Is there one?

Hope that makes more sense now.

If you have a seperate account you want to log in with you can remove the whole auto-detect usernames etc if that's what you mean? So it'll ask for a username/password, when connecting to a proxy? (Thus then typing in student user)

If so, on FF go to about:config, then set to false

network.automatic-ntlm-auth.allow-proxies

network.negotiate-auth.allow-proxies

That'll force it to ask for login, and not auto-user your logged on user. However it also means you need to type it in everytime

(Or am I again misunderstanding?)

Hi,

Thanks all.

I went with Steve's idea as it was fast and easy...and works! Now I can use chrome for my day to day use and firefox for testing different filtering levels without having to log off.

The Avant browser will do exactly what you want. I use it for testing our proxies. You can quickly change proxies (with different credentials) from the Tools>Proxy option.

Use the Tools>Proxy>Customise to add as many proxy/user combinations as you need.

Home - Avant Browser - The full-featured tri-core rendering Avant Browser which supports IE/Firefox/Chrome engines is fast, stable and memory leak free.

It has quite a few other nifty features too. It can change rendering engines on the fly, which is handy for web developers.
