Shadow Copy..?

I with the help of Geoff setup Shadow copy on the main files server where the Students and staff folders are..

 

I set it up to run at midnight..

 

But how does it work.. I tried to recover a deleted file but there was nothing there when i right mouse clicked ?

To recover a deleted file you have to access the files original location through a share. When you say there was nothing when you right clicked I assume you were trying to access it directly on the server? try doing it from the workstation.

 

If memory serves me right there is also some software that you need to install on your workstation to access the previous version.

Yes, you need to install twcli32.msi, which you'll find in the WINDOWS\system32\clients\twclient folders. And yes, it only works through a share, not on the server itself.

Busiy deploying the msi now..

 

so if the students mapped drives are not shared then the Shadow Copy wont work ?

it will work if they are shared or not, if you have the service running, it has no be running on the appropriate hard drive right click the folder > properties > previous version
