iSCSI SAN and NAS on same switches?

We have a DELL MD3220i SAN connected to three ESX hosts via 2x dedicated 24 port gigabit switches. I want to use a seperate server running DPM to backup the SAN to a QNAP 12-bay NAS.

 

I believe I could use cross-over cables to attach the QNAP device to the DPM server or I could attach the NAS to the DPM server via a spare switch, or I could use the same switches as the SAN uses.

 

Any arguments in favour/against these options?

 

My preference would be to attach the NAS to the same switches as the SAN.

That is what I would do given that the NAS would be on the same network address as the SAN rather than being on the same network as your LAN so that it would have direct connectivity via the switch with 2 nics for failover, one connection to each switch.

 

This is how Citrix has defined it for XenServer
