Blue_Cookeh Posted July 19, 2012 Posted July 19, 2012 I'm looking into deploying some iPads (as much as I love them, urgh, not great in a school IMO...) and was wondering how you guys did a couple of things... 1. Is there a way for the iPads to automatically download an app if it's purchased on another iPad? 2. How do you stop children adding passcodes and fiddling with the settings? I have Meraki MDM setup on a couple of iPads, which works nicely but doesn't give us tight enough control really... we also don't have a Mac server. Thanks!
Blue_Cookeh Posted July 19, 2012 Author Posted July 19, 2012 iPCU? . Doesn't let you remove the ability to change the passcode, as far as I remember? I'll take a look.
jdell Posted July 20, 2012 Posted July 20, 2012 To be honest Blue_Cookeh if you are looking at deploying more than 5 you need to be looking at a Mac server at least a Mac Mini running OS X Lion Server. As the is software specificly desgin to ad delpoyment of iPad's (Apple Configurator) is just one which allows you to lock about 70% of the settings which is all the ones you want to lock, passcode them build a app set and the deploy it to multiple iPads we set up 18 is about 2 hours and the students have been using them for months and we have had no problems, we are looking to scale up the role out and with out a Mac Server to back it up you would really struggle to get the level of deployment that you need. If your establisment is looking to do this on any scale then the project should be costed to include a Mac Server or you are really going to spend allot of your time chasing your tail. Not at least in the case when someone does change the pin and you spend a day with the PC it was set up on trying to wipe the device. Good luck. 1
