starscream Posted June 11, 2007 Posted June 11, 2007 Hi all! Does anyone have any clever asset management secrets they would like to share? I don't know about any othet techies but I am responsible for asset management (not in my job description!) This means preparing a yearly insurance inventory and keeping a database of ICT equipment etc. Now what I want to implement next year is a software setup similar to what ilient sysaid. Basically it is software that you have a database of machines and equipment (can be added automatically by scanning your domain) It keeps an inventory of each item, it's software, serial numbers etc. It is also an integrated web based help desk system so you can log any support issues along with that item in the database. You can see how useful this software is for those of us burdoned with this task. Does anyone else use this method? I am also interested to see if anyone uses barcode readers to swiftly read serial numbers etc? I am also considering assigning asset tags to all out equipment, so far I have used the serial number as the unique identifier but feel as the equipment in primary schools grows I need a new system to keep track of everything, including support queries. Any thought on this would be appreciated before I implement sysaid this summer.

starscream Posted June 11, 2007 Author Posted June 11, 2007 oh I see, I have seen that before, can't remember why I felt that sisaid was better. Might as well install it again. Is it helpdesk too?
starscream Posted June 11, 2007 Author Posted June 11, 2007 It must have been a much older version of this I tried as this latest one is absolutely spot on fella! Cheers for pointing me in it's direction! Bye bye sysaid!
