Remove DFS servers

Hi

 

After having dfs working we have now decided to remove the dfs namespace and servers but keep the shares. Please could somebody point me in the right direction?

Open DFS from the administrative tools on one of your DFS servers. Now select the replication and either turn off the schedule or delete the share setup in replication. Now you can just ammend the GPOs for folder redirection etc. to point to the server you wish to keep. You can now just delete the shares from the other server/s.

 

Just out of interest, what is the the DFS used for, are the servers Server 2003 or 2008 and why do you want to remove DFS?

Don't you have to delete/ remove the namespace from AD?

 

We have server 2008, we want to remove this as we are moving it to virtual and won't need dfs because we have replication?
