How often do you renew your backup tapes? Do you buy new each year?

It depends how often they are used. If you keep one for every month for example it would be pointless replacing it after a year as it has only had one use.

We use mon, tues, wed, thur, fri 1, 2, 3, month 1, 2, 3. The tapes have been used for two years in this cycle.

I did a 20 tape rotation, replaced once each year. M-T, Friday 1-4, Month 1-12.

 

Have to spend a bit on tapes, but you have monthly backups for every year then. Encrypted, some on/off site (or other secure location).

Until they break/stop backing up. Prob get about 4yrs from them but some we have longer, others shorter (more longer than shorter though).
