Dos_Box Posted May 4, 2012 Posted May 4, 2012 Bah! My office computer (attached to an APC BackUPS ES700) threw up a message saying the USB cable wasn't connected, so I fired up PowerChute PE to find it was working fine. I put this down to the PC coming out of sleep rather than booting afresh each day (shut down for weekends of course). Anyway, as I was looking at PC PE I noticed it was a couple years old and so I went to search for a new version ('This'll be a 2 min job' I thought). Sure enough there was a shiny new V3.0.2 to replace my 2.2.2. Nice One download and uninstall of the old version later I went to install the new one. The problem is it won't. You can go through the 'Next' and 'I Accept' screens but once you get to the 'Choose installation directory' you can't go any further. You can click 'Next' but nothing happens. And it seems I'm not alone. I've tried everything on this APC thread: APC Discussion Forums : Can't install Powerchute Personal ... and I've tried running it in compatability mode (with admin rights, and variations thereof!). Now, before I go and dig out the origional disk (it's around here somewhere!) has anyone encountered this before and have any solutions that I may not yet have tried?
SYNACK Posted May 4, 2012 Posted May 4, 2012 No help with the software but ditch the usb and use serial if you can, USB is just not as relible for constant on applications like UPS. I have had to deal with the fallout from this before.
Little-Miss Posted May 6, 2012 Posted May 6, 2012 Dodgy software. Had to remove it from one server as It wouldn't load past "applying system settings" or whatever
featured_spectre Posted May 6, 2012 Posted May 6, 2012 Have to agree with the switch to serial if possible.
ricki Posted May 7, 2012 Posted May 7, 2012 Hi I had this problems with usb I managed to get it to work by Turn off pc or server Turn off ups Unplug all wires from back of ups. Hold down power bitton for 10 secs and it will click Plug it in and try it again. Are you running the latest version of the software. Remember backups come with the personal version if the software and they does does not work with windows 2008. I had to upgrade to a smartups 1500 and that worked perfectly with windows 2008. The other 2 things I have had with them in the battery was dying which the software found when checking the ups and whem I was about to completely give up I gave APC a ring and the very helpful enigineer identifed the unit was broken.
