Firewall configuration

We are looking into moving away from our local authority Internet connection and firewall and buying our own services. As such we will be demoing some firewall and filtering devices. Having never configured a hardware firewall before is there anything particular that I should look out for and ensure is enabled on the firewall side of things. I am putting together a list but I am sure. Will have missed some things.

It rather depends how you have your DMZ, in a vlan presumably.

I would either:

a) read the manual

b) get the vendor to train you whilst they install it. it's a good bet because you can guarantee they will do it correctly and save you masses of time learning.
