Deploying Printers

Hi I am looking at deploying printers via gpp. I have followed this guide and no luck. Could somebody point me in the right direction please?

We create a GPO in the OU that you are interested in and give it a name that makes sense to us [eg: Deploy Room 1 Printer]

 

We then use Print Management from a Windows 7 station:

 

Shortcut target: %systemroot%\system32\printmanagement.msc

 

Select 'Print Servers' and add your print server

 

Having added your print servers select 'Printers' Here you will see your network printers listed.

 

Select the printer you want to deploy. Right click the printer and select 'Deploy with Group Policy' Use the 'Browse' button to find the GPO you created earlier. Select the deployment method [Per User/Per Machine] using the tick boxes. Click add.

 

Job done.

We do the same except we use a windows server 2008 (which is the print server) to do the print management side of it. Install the printer on the server and using the print manager add the relevant drivers for different versions of windows (XP/7) then deploy via GPO and attach it to the GPO we want.

 

Oh, also if you are using the preferences extension of the GPOs with XP workstations you need to install group policy preferences extensions (or something like that... cant remember exactly) on to each XP client. Perhaps you already know that but always worth remembering just in case.

Thanks for your reply. I have found what the problem was I have excluded my username in the filter options haha. Please could yuo tell me how you set the default printer?
