gselliott Posted April 12, 2012 Posted April 12, 2012 Is there any good reliable software (preferably free) that can sync data between a Mac Book and Windows 2008 (both ways)? The head teacher has got a Mac Book and wants to be able to sync her user folder on the Windows server with her Mac Book so she can work on docs away from School. I have tried using Synkron which kind of works (sometimes) but is a bit unreliable and she is ending up with different versions of data on the Mac and Server. Has anyone implemented anything that works for this situation? I don’t want to (can’t) go down the cloud route so it has to be something that can sync with our current server. Thanks gselliott
JR-PCS Posted April 12, 2012 Posted April 12, 2012 You want to go in to directory utility and make the account an mobile account. see screenshot below
gselliott Posted April 12, 2012 Author Posted April 12, 2012 Thanks for the reply, what exactly will that do?
JR-PCS Posted April 12, 2012 Posted April 12, 2012 (edited) if you join the mac to the windows active directory domain and make her account a mobile account, it will sync all of her home folder from the windows server to the mac local HD, and then it will regularly sync back to the server as she works on the mac. It also means she can work on files in her home folder away from school and when she comes back in they will sync to the windows servers. Edited April 12, 2012 by JR-PCS
