Styloid Posted March 30, 2012 Posted March 30, 2012 Can anybody help me. Server 2008 does not seem to support many popular HP inkjets in use daily in many classrooms. Those not supported include K5400n Pro 8000, and the brand new model, the 8100 eprinter. HP Inkjets which do support 2008 include HP 6500 and the HP 9640 and are not really suitable for school use. Has anybody got a fix for this ? thanks Pete
ihaveaproblem Posted March 30, 2012 Posted March 30, 2012 what do you mean by not support? no drivers?
Styloid Posted March 30, 2012 Author Posted March 30, 2012 sorry - yes I mean no drivers. None. So non of the Common HP inkjets will work in the classroom if using windows 2008.
ihaveaproblem Posted March 30, 2012 Posted March 30, 2012 What OS are your client machines on? You can download drivers here for one of the model printers you mentioned Software & Driver Downloads HP Officejet Pro K5400n Printer - HP technical support (United Kingdom - English) Download the driver for the correct OS which your client machines use and then use that as the driver when sharing the printer on the server.
SimpleSi Posted March 30, 2012 Posted March 30, 2012 Its starting to look like the whole printer driver/server windows world is going up the creek! You can't add Win7 64bit drivers to w2k3 servers and now you can't even use "old" printers I'm thinking its going to be necessary to use a few virtual printer server VMs (maybe even Linux ones if they end up being more compatible) Si

Even if add it as an additional driver? Didn't know that.
sted Posted March 31, 2012 Posted March 31, 2012 K5400s do "work" but cause spooler crashes iirc the trick is to plug them in via usb one of each printer type then it will get a driver and can subsequently be used on network printers. Lots of hp printers have no or poor support on 2008 and some that have drivers have terrible drivers 1
