[ubuntu] Where do I put a startup script

I'm trying to update my old eeePC 701s to Ubunutu 9.04 (last one I can get fitted onto the machines) so I can run an updated Firefox so I can run a online maths prog that needs an updated flash!

 

So got ubuntu up and running but I want to have my server pupilwork share auto-mounted everytime the machine is booted.

 

I had this working on the orig OS - anyone know where stick my samba share mount script to achivee same effect - or is there an easy GUI method of doing this?

Couple of ways:

 

You could mount the share in your fstab and rely on Windows security preventing the users accessing the other users' accounts

Configure a system to automount a Samba share with /etc/fstab

 

or you could configure the "logon drive" in Samba

or you could use your idea of a logon script in the user's home directory (hidden file called ".bashrc")

Luckily it looks like I've managed to get the share to stick to the left side places/folders/bookmarks??? when loading/saving so that should suffice

 

Had to stick a password in into the keyring manger to stop it asking everytime but now it seems to retain knowledge of the server share everytime

/etc/fstab would be the location to use.

 

I would also upgrade to at least 10.04 9.04 will go EOL soon 10.04 is the most recent long term support version which is soon to be superseeded by 12.04 in april.

AFAIK it won't fit onto a 4G drive (without stripping things from distro)

We bought about 30 of these when they came out and find them very useful as simple openoffice/web browser/grab images tool.

 

Its only when the school started using an online maths resource thingy that I needed to update it!

 

It'd be nice if they handled Espresso mpg videos as well but you can't have everything
