In the past, if any videos needed going on our websites, I take the camera, copy the video off it, any video convertor it to flv- upload to the school joomla website and create a skeleton article with the video in it.

Now with the increase in teachers taking videos instead of pictures, I'd like them to do all of this instead of me.

But, I'm thinking that the best way to do this would be to use somesort of YouTube "type" site where they do all the hard work of converting and showing the video and that all the teacher would have to do after that is link to it from a simpel website article.

But obviously, YouTube is almost always blocked in my schools, so is there a "safer" place to get the same sort of service?

@SimpleSi:

Have you tried this:MediaCore | Online Video Platform

Obviously there is a cost involved, we had a trial of it running at our school on our own server but couldn't get what we required from it without paying for it and even then it didn't meet our requirements, for what you want it should be just perfect.

There is also the open source free version here: http://mediacorecommunity.org/

Good hunting :)

It's really interesting to hear that your teachers are now using more video than photos, and you're right in that the less encoding/uploading work for school technicians, the better! If a video solution is easy for teachers, it also means it gets used more - meaning that it makes a much bigger impact on students' learning.

What sorts of things are your teachers using video for?
