iPad Mac Server Webdav/SMB File Sharing

I've set up a WebDav share on our Mac Mini Server which is accessible from ipads on the network.

 

The mac mini server is bound to AD.

 

We would like to access the same share from the windows (AD) side using SMB.

 

I have shared the folder out using SMB and given the AD user full permission to the folder.

 

From the windows side it asks for authentication when browsing to the folder.

 

If you put in the AD authentication info it fails saying there is a permissions issue.

 

If you put in an open direction user name / password it connects fine.

 

Is there something that I am missing here?

Have you tried DOMAIN\username when authenticating, rather than just typing the username?

Yea I tried both domain\username and just username, same permissions error..

try adding the domain suffix as well, eg domain.local\username.

 

I'd also double check the AD link from your server side.

Because you can connect via the OD user the share is working, but what isn't working is the AD replication that gives the Mac Server the list of users/access from AD.

 

-Check AD is binding properly

-Check the AD permissions; have you got something blocking it, is it just one share not working, all of them?

-Check for OSX updates. I seem to recall a patch notes from latest lion releases saying they fixed some compatibility issues with windows and smb shares.

I assume the server is Lion server since it is a mac mini server. What version of Windows are you using?

 

XP apparently has issues connecting to webdav shares. If you are not specifying the type of share you are connecting to then this maybe the problem you are seeing. The client maybe picking up the fact the folder is held in a realm which is password protected and trying to authenticate against the webdav service rather than the smb service.

 

I'm not sure if any of that is true but theoretically it might be

 

I haven't dabbled very much with webdav and haven't shared out a webdav folder using other methods myself.
