It's a mini-game and everywhere is your playing board. Get a smartphone, use a mobile app and GPS to check-in and you get points. You aim to have the most points out of all your friends in a just for fun contest. New places net more points then visiting the same, but visit a place regular and you get mayorship (which occasionally offers discounts etc as a marketing tool for the business but mostly just bragging rights).

 

It's dead easy to cheat the system but that takes away the fun of it. And don't check in to home or work because it paints a big fat target on you for trouble. >.<
