BBC News - Bristol bus driver 'used vehicle as weapon'

 

One thing the article doesn't convey (and I say this not having seen any other article about it) that it's fairly clear the cyclist was being a child about something or other. Basically, 2 children were throwing their toys out of the pram and the one with the biggest pram "won".

This is of course what i can make out on the video anyway.

 

17 months though? Seems a bit short

The local reports make that an awful lot clearer - the cyclist was not 100% innocent, he has aggravated the bus driver and if you see the earlier footage of the bus driver trying to pull into the correct lane at Stokes Croft roundaboutfrom a bus lane (a manouver that isn't easy in a car let alone the bus) the cyclist should have given way to the bus. The cyclist then starts the argument with the bus driver and continues it.

 

That said, what happened next is inexcusable, and 17 months is lenient.

This was headline news in Australia. Whatever happened the bus driver shouldn't have done that he did.

The bus w... no, I won't say it. The bus man put a lot more lives at risk too, and clearly is a danger to anyone if he is able to use a bus to severely hurt someone like that. He's lucky not to have killed the bloke.

I have no sympathy for neither of them. I agree what happened is inexcusable, however the cyclist didn't help himself - he did show aggression practically face to face to the bus driver.

 

The bus driver was lucky to get only 17 months, the cyclist was lucky to only get a broken leg. Hopefully both of them has learnt a lesson, to be better road users.

Absolutely. If the dice had rolled differently, the guy would have been under the wheels and it would be murder.
