netop school not able to "observe" some student computers.

My teacher uses Netop School Teacher 6.02 on Windows 7 to monitor 20 computers all running Windows XP service pack 3. While he can lock up all computers to prevent interaction when he wants to as well as disable internet and etc, he can not use the observe option on certain computers. The student computers will respond by removing the wallpaper temporarily but will not let him view the screen and take control of the cursor.

 

When he tries to connect to these computers with the observe option, an empty window pops up with no screen besides the controls. We have no idea if it's a problem with the teacher program or the student. If you want more information, just ask. Thank you for reading.

When the Netop School Student module is connected to the Teacher module but cannot be remote controlled or observed by the Teacher, this is normally an indication of a graphics problem with the screen transfer on the Student computer. The quick fix is to change a setting on the Teacher to use bitmap mode instead of command mode. In the Teacher go to Options>Supervision and check the box to Remote control in bitmap mode and check the box to Observe in bitmap mode. This will normally allow the Teacher to now receive screen graphics from the Student but does not resolve the underlying issue. When Student is running on Win XP, usually a re-installation of the Student module is all that is necessary to restore the command mode display driver functionality on Windows XP. If that does not resolve the issue, the next step is to make sure you are using up to date drivers for your Student's display adapter.

 

This suggestion should work for any version of Netop School as long as the Students that exhibit this symptom are running on Windows XP. It is worth mentioning that version 6.02 of School is old and was never intended to be installed on a Windows 7 computer. Running this version on your Teacher's Windows 7 computer might cause unexpected complications. You might want to consider upgrading to a newer version of School or even switching to Netop's Vision Pro. This is a free upgrade for Netop School customers with current Advantage program licenses.
