enjay Posted February 2, 2012 Posted February 2, 2012 I think our BT/2Wire router is faulty, however I can't convince their support call centre of this. They did suggest I put a different router in its place (when I asked if they could send me a replacement anyway, which I would return if it didn't fix the issue). Do you guys typically have the ISP-provided router or do you use your own? If the latter, what are good and bad makes, and are there any particular things I need to be aware of when buying? This is for a BT Infinity "fibre-to-the-cabinet" service, FWIW.
Gaz Posted February 2, 2012 Posted February 2, 2012 Not sure if this is the same problem but BT should be replacing all routers/modems at the moment. BT comes clean on Infinity modem 'upgrade' ? The Register
enjay Posted February 2, 2012 Author Posted February 2, 2012 Thanks @Gaz Not sure if that is related, or not. We did have our modem swapped because it had over-heated (of course, at the time the engineer blamed us for letting it get too hot), but the problem we're seeing now is with the router.
Gaz Posted February 2, 2012 Posted February 2, 2012 (edited) It cant hurt to try a different router, it may even improve things. I don't use an ISP supplied router, I use a Draytek 2820vn, but I'm on ADSL2+ I don't know if you need a special router for FTTC. I'd avoid the likes of Belkin and Netgear like the plague, I've had moderately good experiences with D-Link and good experiences with ZyXEL, 3com (now HP) and Draytek. Edited February 2, 2012 by Gaz
OB1 Posted February 3, 2012 Posted February 3, 2012 I've had moderately good experiences with D-Link Can you remember which one? I've got a DSL-2640B. Does the job, but seems to have 'moods' sometimes, especially with the wireless. It's getting swapped out soon though.
Gaz Posted February 3, 2012 Posted February 3, 2012 I'm afraid not, too many moons have passed. My draytek, while costing a small fortune, has been great and the ZyXEL and 3Com routers are still working and have been donated to my sisters.
