Hello,

I'm deploying Live@Edu in the coming weeks and am just setting up the account now.

What I'd like to do is give a user an alias, so [email protected] is an alias to [email protected]... but I was wondering, if I do this, will I be able to send from the [email protected] account?

How have other people gone about doing this? I want staff to have consistent firstname.lastname addresses, but at the same time we need a couple of generic addresses... of course, staff don't want to be bothered checking multiple accounts though.

Thanks!

Keeping role and personal mailboxes separate is clearly a good thing, so tell 'em it's not possible and they'll have to cope which isn't hard if you connect Outlook.

Failing that, I haven't done it but you could try this:

1) Make [email protected] a personal mailbox

2) Make a distribution list called [email protected] and add [email protected] as the only member.

3) Give j.bloggs Send As rights for the distribution list in 2.

If you do try this uh.. brilliant theory, let use know the outcome please, especially if it works (useful for multiple folk fielding mail for a generic address) :)

Not done with Live@edu but easily done in Exchange - Create a new user and simply give the joe bloggs full access/sendas perms and also send on behalf.

Then in outlook select the option to be able to send from and then type in the office account and bobs your uncle (its what we do here for our office account)

+1 - Agree with Glenda

staff aren't bothered, there only difference between your solution and Glenda's is that you're using a DL where as Glenda's is using a mailbox, both have to use the send as permission. User will still be bothered as they have to select the email they wish to use in the from field. That part isnt automatic as the default (primary smtp) will always be used.

Advantage of Glenda's is that you can add it as an additional mailbox if required and use that mailbox if needed.
