Hi everyone

First time edugeeker here!

Is there anyway of disabling the up one level button on the Windows Common dialog box (Save AS /Open) so students can only save in the home folder? Ideally via GPO.

Many thanks

You might be better off looking at folder permissions.

Assuming you have your students organised into year groups on your server you may have something that looks like this:

\\Server\Intake2011

With the individual student folders below. Intake2011 is the share that contains the current Year 11 home folders. We have permissions set as follows:

Share permissions: Administrators, Staff and all students in year 7 [security Group: Intake2011] Full control.

Folder permissions: Administrators: Full control: Staff: Modify [We allow staff to see student home folders. These permissions are inherited by the folders below]

When we used Active Directory to create a user in Year 7 we direct the Home Folder to:

\\Server\Intake2011\11NewUser [Year of intake 11: Last name: New: First initial: User]

Then the Home folder is created with the correct permissions the user and staff need. When they save they cannot navigate past

\\Server\Intake2011\11NewUser to \\Server\Intake2011 because they do not have permission to access \\Server\Intake2011\11NewUser or any other folders in that director except their own home folder.

HTH.
