LosOjos Posted January 9, 2012 Posted January 9, 2012 So I'm sure by now you've all heard the rumours that Kodak are on their last legs. Well I hadn't heard this when on Saturday afternoon I purchased a Kodak printer My question to you fellow geeks is this - do I a) sell the printer b) stock up on ink c) hope somebody continues to manufacture cartridges d) stop panicking, Kodak will be fine... e) other (please describe!)
Millgate Posted January 9, 2012 Posted January 9, 2012 I've got a Kodak printer at home too for printing photos and i've bought loads of ink. I think they cost just over £10 so it can't hurt. Once they've run out, i'll probably have to get a new printer
GREED Posted January 9, 2012 Posted January 9, 2012 How much will you be printing? If little, stock up, if lots maybe sell it? Can you take it back? (Give it a kick and say it stopped working )
Abaddon Posted January 9, 2012 Posted January 9, 2012 There's plenty of Kodak printers in the wild - I doubt you'll have a problem before you want to replace it anyway, so chill out...
FN-GM Posted January 9, 2012 Posted January 9, 2012 Remeber if you stockup on ink that it will expire at some point
plexer Posted January 9, 2012 Posted January 9, 2012 D or E If E someone will buy the various parts. Ben
michael2k6 Posted January 10, 2012 Posted January 10, 2012 Sorry, I voted before reading the entire post... I've had problems numerous times installing several kodak printers onto the same network, expecially using wireless. It's ok if you want to run one from each machine but as soon as you install two different models to the same machine on the same network they fight to the death! So I just have a general dislike for them. In this case though I reckon stock up on ink and you'll be fine. There will be companies making compatible cartirdges for ever and a day anyway though I would of thought?
LosOjos Posted January 10, 2012 Author Posted January 10, 2012 Well I am planning on printing out quite a few photos; my choice on Kodak was the cheap ink and very good quality for the price! Anybody got any ideas on the shelf life of inkjet cartridges?
sted Posted January 10, 2012 Posted January 10, 2012 Well I am planning on printing out quite a few photos; my choice on Kodak was the cheap ink and very good quality for the price! Anybody got any ideas on the shelf life of inkjet cartridges? depends if they have chips with an imposed use by date
LosOjos Posted January 10, 2012 Author Posted January 10, 2012 well shelf life seems to be listed at 3 years but whether or not this is imposed by the chip I don't know. Currently no sign of third party cartridges either, although I'm hoping that's because the official cartridges are so cheap they'd struggle to undercut them! The irritating thing is, I intended to get a Canon or Epson but chose Kodak for the cheap ink - now it looks like I'm going to be out of pocket anyway!
