Dos_Box Posted November 18, 2011 Posted November 18, 2011 (edited) Mrs Dos_Box and I have been looking for information on the ECDL Level 2 course to do at night school. What we can't find is the price. We've looked at quite a few college web sites now and whilst many of them say they do the course, none actually list the price (it's all 'please call for more information'). Can anyone here shed light on how much she can expect to pay for this course? Edited November 18, 2011 by Dos_Box
featured_spectre Posted November 18, 2011 Posted November 18, 2011 (edited) Why not start her off on the Microsoft digital literacy course. It's free and equates to the level 2 ECDL (90% anyways) and is a solid foundation. The only thing ECDL does that MSDLC doesn't do is cover some of the office functionality in depth. http://www.microsoft.com/about/corporatecitizenship/citizenship/giving/programs/up/digitalliteracy/eng/Curriculum3.mspx < covers everything ECDL Level 1 covers and about 10% of Level 2 http://www.microsoft.com/about/corporatecitizenship/citizenship/giving/programs/up/digitalliteracy/eng/AdvancedCurriculum.mspx < covers about 80% of ECDL Level 2 Edited November 18, 2011 by featured_spectre added in links for you
featured_spectre Posted November 18, 2011 Posted November 18, 2011 Oh and my old place charged £60 for the course. But another in the area charged nearly £400!!!
Dos_Box Posted November 19, 2011 Author Posted November 19, 2011 Why not start her off on the Microsoft digital literacy course. It's free and equates to the level 2 ECDL (90% anyways) and is a solid foundation. The only thing ECDL does that MSDLC doesn't do is cover some of the office functionality in depth. Digital Literacy Standard Curriculum Version 3 < covers everything ECDL Level 1 covers and about 10% of Level 2 Microsoft Digital Literacy: Advanced Curriculum < covers about 80% of ECDL Level 2 She already has the ECDL, and was going to do the level 2 as more of a top-up/refresher course. I also suspect that the Microsoft course won't be recognised by many HR departments when it goes on her CV (many posts require ECDL or CLAIT). And those prices you listed!! Bit of a price difference there.
featured_spectre Posted November 19, 2011 Posted November 19, 2011 Msdcl is recognized more than CLAIT as its a global qualification where as CLAIT is UK only and ECDL is Europe.
Kitkatninja Posted November 20, 2011 Posted November 20, 2011 ECDL does have an international counterpart, the International Computer Driving Licence (ICDL). An alternative to the ECDL, MOS, etc... Would be the iTQ Level 2. However again the cost does vary between organisations and area (sometimes a specific area will get Government funding to run certain courses).
