Geoff Posted October 14, 2011 Posted October 14, 2011 I was wondering if anyone uses LibreOffice at all. Home » LibreOffice I know a lot of people would be aware of Oracles OpenOffice ofc. But it seems LibreOffice fork of OpenOffice is also a decent alternative to MS Office? So does anyone have it deployed?

CyberNerd Posted October 14, 2011 Posted October 14, 2011 Yes - sitewide. Installed perfectly from msi
SimpleSi Posted October 14, 2011 Posted October 14, 2011 I was just going to ask the same question as I've come to install OpenOffice on a new set of netbooks. Is there any tech reason to switch or have you just done it to support the "good" guys? Si

Geoff Posted October 14, 2011 Author Posted October 14, 2011 In summary, Open Office is dead. Blame Oracle. Switch to LibreOffice?
dhicks Posted October 14, 2011 Posted October 14, 2011 I was wondering if anyone uses LibreOffice at all. I used it at home to layout a children's book containing 30-odd 300DPI full-page images, with the document coming to around 200MB in size. LibreOffice Writer had a tendancy to crash, particularly when trying to export the file to PDF to send to the printers, although in fairness I was probably using it for something it wasn't really designed for. Word 2010 seems to handle the same task okay, though.
tech_guy Posted October 14, 2011 Posted October 14, 2011 I use it on PCs at work and also have it on a number of PCs at home. It's great and I can do everything that I used to do with the Office suite from M$....

SYNACK Posted October 14, 2011 Posted October 14, 2011 I have used it on a Mac and it did in fact make me angry but did not push it sitewide to anything other than the iPastels.
