Odd VNC behaviour

We use VNC for remote control of the PCs here - recently we've been adding some Win 7 64bit installation and put TightVNC on them. It all works fine but the client PCs desktop turns black when vnc is connected, then reverts back to the default Windows 7 (with the swirly pattern!) when disconnected!

 

We push the desktop out by group policy (its just a plain bitmap colour) so this seems like odd behaviour? Anyone using VNC having similar problems?

 

We've also tried an older version of vnc, but it still does the same thing!

In the past i used TightVNC on W7 but set the Wallpaper using BGinfo and it was ok. Might be worth looking at that.

I wanted to keep the background using group policy if at all possible so it can be changed/deployedm easily. Odd the way it goes black, then reverts to the Windows setup default once disconnected! Where is it getting that setting from!

It's probably a VNC setting to change the background to a less bandwidth intensive one that is obviously reading a value either earlier, before the GPO applies or simply reading it from the wrong place. Change the setting on the VNC server or client to stop it from changing the wallpaper to a less bandwidth hungry one and it should clear up the issue assuming the programers have not doen anything retarded (unsafe assumption usually).

If you go into the client side configuration, uncheck the "Hide desktop wallpaper" box.
