I have a video of a screen recording I did over the weekend. This was done with an external camera and I have a large blank area surrounding the image (I filmed it in a darkened room to prevent screen glare and reflection). I've been editing it using Premier Elements 9 and the crop tool seems to auto detect the screen in the middle of the shot and allow me to crop that. However to surrounding dark space still remains once I have cropped the image. So my question is this. How do I make PE crop the central image and only render that? Is it possible?

In Elements 8 it's Edit - scrool down to the Crop control and drag it to the time line. Edit Effects and you can then crop. Depending what you want to do, tale a look at Clip as well.

I get to crop, but it still keeps the black surround. It's very strange. I'll have another try with what you have suggested as I 'may' be doing something wrong. Heaven forbid I actually use online help*

*Actually I did, and after a 5 min update it was still next to useless.
