jonnykewell1 Posted September 26, 2011 Posted September 26, 2011 Rolled out office 2010 over the summer. As 2003 is no longer installed, we decided to uninstall the office compatability pack. But on lots of machines the powerpoint and excel documents xlsx and pptx stopped recognising the software to open with even though office 2010 is installed?! Anyone else had a similair problem. If you double click the file excel and powerpoint are not on the list and as we block kids accessing C:\ drive they cannot browser to the office14 folder. Instead we have to go round log in as admin and set it ourselves.
SYNACK Posted September 27, 2011 Posted September 27, 2011 It happens as the OCT originally sets file assosiations and so removed them when uninstalled. You can use GPP to redo the assosiations or, better use a startup script to run a repair of the Office 2010 install which will reassosiate it to all the right filetypes. 1
jonnykewell1 Posted September 28, 2011 Author Posted September 28, 2011 What do you mean by GPP?, its becoming a real pain and don't really want to run a repair on every machine.
SYNACK Posted September 28, 2011 Posted September 28, 2011 Setting file associations with group policy preferences - GPO, GPP, Group Policy, Group Policy Preferences looks like an alright tutorial, you can also use a script and the assoc.exe command to remap them. The other option is running the repair as part of a script Repair a package using the command line 1
