Varndean School (Varndean School | Learning is our passion and success the fuel that drives it.) requires a Director of ICT & Communications to provide strategic direction in the development of these areas within the school and to ensure that technology remains at the forefront of its efforts to provide the best possible learning environment for its students and its partners in education.

 

The successful applicant will probably have worked in education for some time and have an excellent understanding of the interaction between pedagogy and technology in such areas as VLEs, website development, social media and communications.

 

They will also have a strong background in ICT with a thorough understanding of standard networking architectures within schools and be able to direct a team of ICT support staff to ensure that service standards are maintained to the current high standards and developed further.

 

The ability to play an active role in the development of closer working relationships with feeder schools as part of the school’s partnership initiative is also an essential requirement of this attractive post.

 

The salary scale is NJC M10 in the range £32,800 - £35,430.

Having now seen this and the other thread could you give a little more background into what is happening there? are you going from outsourced to internallly run systems or does it just happen to be both have left? Internal Restructure?

The current Director of IT is leaving.

 

We feel that one of the weaknesses in our current structure is that he was expected to cover too wide a brief.

 

Therefore, we have decided to create a "no.2" position in the area, so to speak, called Network Manager, who will focus entirely on keeping the systems running on a day-to-day basis.

 

The post of Director of IT will now be widened to Director of IT & Communications as we are interested in expanding the use of IT in our marketing strategy - developing the website; running a database of prospective parents from our feeder schools and so on. This new role will also be given the task of working with teachers to develop the use of IT in the curriculum - the use of Moodles for example, exploring Khan Academy materials (see Youtube) and so on
