macs printing to windows print server HELP!

Hi All

 

We have around 150 macs at my school at im having trouble getting them to print to the printers which are shared from a windows server.

 

On the macs when you go into print and fax and select windows then choose the domain name nothing shows up in the list? then i tried adding the printer manually using the advanced option and selecting windows. This appears to work and i can see jobs going into the print queue on the windows server but it never actually prints the job just spools then pauses its self then deletes its self?

 

Any ideas??? need to get it working

Think I have seen this issue before think it was something to do with the windows account credentials

 

domain\user think it was backslash and not forward slash or the other way round!

Go to http://www.deploystudio.com and download the ksmbprintd. This will enable the print queue to use Kerberos printing authentication on your clients. All you need to do is install the file on all your clients. And then using a client to manage the queues add the print queue using the new ksmb:// option to the list. You can then use WGM to manage the queues for each machine.

 

What I do is have a os x machine that is used to manage the queues for the clients. I have each queue already set up on this machine and this machine is used to manage them in WGM.

 

Once everything is set up, printing to windows queues is seamless, no authentication required and no need to edit configuration files.
