Poweredge 2800 Server 2008 R2

Today I have been wiping the RAID5 array on my Server 2003 R2 DC in order to install 2008 R2 Server onto it.

 

I made sure I had a complete up to date backup and tested the backup with a restore to an alternate location before I hosed the array.

 

Have to say the installation of 2008 R2 on it was easy enough only had to provide the Perc raid controller driver to setup that was all.

 

Now installing updates before I get my backup agent installed and the user data reinstated.

If you use the Dell utilities to install the OS it would have put your drivers on.

 

I have one of these running server 2008 R2 for testing etc as its too old for the production environment. They are still good servers despite the age.

I read conflicting issues about people not being able to get the driver for the perc 5e to work using the dell cd etc...

 

I just had it available on a usb key and had no problems at all.

 

Mine is still under warranty until July 2012 after which it will be retired next summer.

I didnt think they where making them in 2007, ours i older than that and is out of warranty. When i did the install i never had any problems.

We extended the warranty on it a couple of years ago.

Ive got one too, pretty good spec too! It was doing my test SCCM stuff before it moved into HyperV. Looking to repurpose now for DPM i think, with an even older 8600 - but it has shedloads of hotswap bays in it :-)
