backup exec 2010 with a dell powervault TL4000

just got a shiny new TL4000 dual lto5 tape array... cant find any instructions on how to set this up with backup exec 2010...

 

anyone using this combo of hardware and software that can help please?

I've got BE 2010 R3 and a TL2000 connected to a SAS controller in our backup server. In BE goto Tools, Wizards, Tape Device Configuration Wizard. This will allow you to install the drivers - we used the top option, Use Symantec tape drivers for all supported tape drives. Run through the wizard and it should find your drive and install the drivers.

 

I've split the slots up into partitions in BE to allow me to target certain jobs and certain slots (slots 1-4 run the daily differential backups, 5-9 run the weekley full backups and 12-16 run the monthly full backups)

got it up and running. Thanks. Seems the SAS cables were not plugged in correctly.

 

But now backup exec is bitching it isn't licensed for tape library.

 

We already have backup exec and all the licenses for the servers etc, how much am I looking at to add on support for the tape library?

I think the stanard license includes 1 drive and since the TL2000 only has 1 drive I never had to explore additional licensing. If you look here Enterprise Support - Symantec Corp. - Symantec Backup Exec ™ 2010 Licensing Guide that is the license document.

 

It looks like for more than 1 drive you need a Library Expansion Option license. No idea how much that costs.
