Problem with date when merging excel data in word

When I merge excel data in word the date go to US format, how do I keep the date as UK?

I seem to remember there being date options in the Merge Fields within Word, certainly in Office 2003, but I've not really done much merging of stuff for a few years .. but if you have a look at the merge fields (double clicking in edit mode should bring up any formula stuff) you should be able to check that ..

 

Failing that, is Word itself set to location as being the UK and not US as that could also be defaulting it back "home" ..
