I think that it looks interesting enough to try over here. If road deaths can be reduced for one day then why not the rest of the year?

when i first got here i couldn't believe the amount of fatalities that were on the roads. I found the figures astonishing. But then after thinking about it, I dont think I ever recalled the amount of fatalities on the UK roads being widely published / advertised.

 

Also, Ive figured that the reason they are so high here are

 

1) the massive distances between destination (just nipping to melbourne for the day isnt uncommon (10 hr each way))

2) because of the long durations between rains, the roads build up with all sorts of oil and grime, making them especially slippy when it does rain

3) insurance is bought for a car, not for a person, so its not uncommon to see 17 year olds still on their "Ps" (google it) driving round in their parents cars way too powerful

 

Perhaps a native Aussie can supplement this?
