[sims] Installing Sims on new server. shared directory should point at ???

When installing Sims on a new server (2008r2) I run siminst.exe and at the bottom of the first page is a settings link. When I click this it opens a settings page, with items like - location of DocStorage.

Under the Workstation heading is 'Install SIMS application in the shared directory' section which points to S:\SIMS, is this correct? as I get a Sims install was unable to write to the SIMS application in the shared directory error.

 

I have all the permissions set the same as the old server.

I think so. are you running as admin?

I think those are the settings that end up in the sims.ini..:

If you are installing on a server you need local paths not shared paths. Presumably you want to run SIMS on the server occasionally.

 

Shared paths would be on the workstations.

I would use the ISO to do the install.

I just ran SIMSinst on my server and ticked install as server and workstation, there is no settings button. The first two options request sims directory and sims setups which are S:\sims and s:\sims\setups .

Next it asks for workstation application install, and it has this by default:

C:\Program Files (x86)\SIMS\SIMS .net

File version is 1.590.3.0 - but it is old, just thinking, i did my install using the Spring 2010 install ISO! Don't know if the later upgrade to Spring 11 will have updated it.

Just found a 1.570. It doesn't have a 'Settings' button.
