Guest Guest Posted June 29, 2011 Posted June 29, 2011 Can anyone clarify exactly what licences I will need here; I have 2 DPM servers 2 HyperV servers running various OSs including around 6 windows hosts. 5 physical Windows servers Anyone any idea of how many DPM licences I will need as the 2 companies I have went to for information have said different things. Thanks
ChrisMiles Posted June 29, 2011 Posted June 29, 2011 My understanding is that you should need this: 9 Windows Server Licenses, 2 for the DPM servers, 2 for the HyperV servers and 5 for the physical servers. 2 System Center Data Protection Manager 2010 Server ML Enterprise licenses to back up the DPM servers (license for the software is included). 2 System Center Data Protection Manager 2010 Server ML Enterprise licenses to back up the HyperV servers. 5 System Center Data Protection Manager 2010 Server ML Standard or Enterprise licenses to back up the physical servers depending on what they run. (Standard is fine for BMR/Files but Enterprise is needed for SQL/Exchange etc). HyperV requires no additional licenses for 4 of less VMs per host.
AngryTechnician Posted June 29, 2011 Posted June 29, 2011 Note that with the above model (2 licences for the Hyper-V servers), I believe you can only install the agent onto the Hyper-V hosts, not onto each guest individually. This could potentially mean less functionality if the guests are running SQL/Exchnage/SharePoint.
