I have just setup shadow copies using How to Use the Shadow Copy Client as a guide

But it mentions needing a client application in order to access shadow copies or something.

Shadow copies can be accessed only by computers on which the Shadow Copies of Shared Folders client software (Twcli32.msi) has been installed. For Windows Server 2003, Shadow Copies of Shared Folders works by default. For Windows XP Professional, the code is available on the Windows Server 2003 CD at %Windir%\System32\Clients\Twclient\X86.

However I have logged into a desktop with my test account and when I right click on the shared folder (users home directory) I have access to the "previous versions" tab and I am able to restore the folder to a previous version.

So my question is do I need the client application? what does it do?

Server is 2003 Enterprise Edition R2 SP2

Desktops are XP Pro SP3

Cheers.
