Admiral208 Posted March 18, 2011 Posted March 18, 2011 Hi all, We have a HP Colour Laserjet 3500 here that prints a light shade of cyan accross the whole page. I printed an event log and got the errors 54.14 - Density Sensor out of range 54.18 - CPR Sensor out of range 54.17 - CPR Sensor out of range 54.16 - CPR Sensor out of range 54.15 - CPR Sensor out of range I calibrated the printer 3 times as suggested on a website. Then I printed a cleaning page twice but still the same problem. After some reading on the net, I disabled the cartridge check and swapped the cyan and yellow toners around. I did a demo print and now there is a shade of yellow accross the background. (I have attached scans of the two printouts to show you all. The yellow isn't that obvious on the scan but believe me its the same density as the cyan scan.) This says to me that its not the cartridge's at fault but the printer itself. Do any of you have experience with this sort of issue?? Do I need to replace any parts within the printer itself?? we have a spare 3500 that I could use for repairs if needed. Thanks James
ricki Posted March 21, 2011 Posted March 21, 2011 Hi I have not heard of this one but the only time I have had problems with one of these printers in when I have used recon cartridges. Richard
Admiral208 Posted March 21, 2011 Author Posted March 21, 2011 Thanks Richard. The cartridges are are genuine. After a bit of research, one thing that keeps coming up is the High Voltage PCB and the DC controller PCB might be defective. Does that mean anything to anyone?? As I mentioned in the original post, I have another printer of the same model for spares, I might change the boards if its easy enough to do.
plexer Posted March 21, 2011 Posted March 21, 2011 Do you have the service manual for it? hp colour laserjet 3500 Service Manual free download, schematics, datasheets, eeprom bins, pcb, repair info for test equipment and electronics Ben
plexer Posted March 21, 2011 Posted March 21, 2011 Sorry a better link is: http://www.feedroller.com/Store/Service%20Manual/Color%20LaserJet%203500-3550-3700.pdf All in one file. Ben 1
Admiral208 Posted March 21, 2011 Author Posted March 21, 2011 I managesd to find part of the service manual on partshere. i will give it a go and report back. It seems like thias might take me a couple of hours and might be a job for the holiday in a couple of weeks. Does anyone else have any other thoughts on this. Thanks
Cache Posted March 21, 2011 Posted March 21, 2011 I had 54.15 and it was the yellow cartridge - at the back behind each cartirdge are the sensors (a glass oval and a little black tube either above/below it - can't remember atm), a bit of clean air and a soft headed brush to remove any dust has thankfully removed the errors for the last week (which were occuring daily). Could give that a try first (easier and quicker then dismantling the printer anyway) because I phoned someone up to ask about it and was told it was likely the parts you mentioned that were faulty
Admiral208 Posted March 22, 2011 Author Posted March 22, 2011 thanks Cache, i will try that today. the only thing that makes me think its not the cartridge is the fact that when i disable the cartridge check and swap the cyan and yellow, i get a yellow background instead of a cyan background.
Cache Posted March 22, 2011 Posted March 22, 2011 Yeah, I swapped the cartridges arround into another CP3505 printer and got the same errors caused in the original printer so ruled the cartridges out that way. Good luck with the cleaning
